Power BI/ Tableau/ Looker Connectors Article

How to Connect to your Visualization or BI Tool

Since CaliberMind utilizes Google BigQuery for storing your organization data, connecting to most visualization or BI tools is a simple process. Before connecting the visualization or BI tool to your BigQuery data, you must request a Service Account from your CaliberMind CSM (or by submitting a request for assistance here). A Service Account provides a greater level of security, and allows the connection to be made without an individual or specific organization user "tied" to the connection. Once completed, our team will provide you with the necessary information required to connect - including the JSON credentials certificate.

How Do I Connect to Power BI?

Customers who want to sync data from CaliberMind to Power BI can do so by connecting to your organization's Google BigQuery database: Select “Get Data” from the Home ribbon in Power BI Desktop. Select “Database” from the categories on the left, and you see “Google BigQuery”. In the Google BigQuery window that appears, select "Service Account", place in the Service Account information provided to you from CaliberMind, then select Connect.

  1. To connect to a Google BigQuery database select Get Data from the Home ribbon in Power BI Desktop. Select Database from the categories on the left, and you will see Google BigQuery.
  2. In the Google BigQuery window that appears, select Service Account.
  3. Enter the Service Account information that was provided to you from CaliberMind, then click on Connect.
  4. Once you successfully connect, a Navigator window appears and displays the data available on the server, from which you can select one or multiple elements to import and use in Power BI Desktop.

How Do I Connect to Looker?

Customers who want to sync data from CaliberMind to Looker may do this by selecting “connections” from their admin panel and adding BigQuery as a trusted connection. From there you would choose an SQL dialect that matches your connection so that CM can load the data into Looker using the newly established BigQuery connection.

  1. Select Connections from the admin panel and add BigQuery as a trusted connection
  2. Enter the Service Account information that was provided to you from CaliberMind.
  3. Create a temporary dataset for storing persistent derived tables.
  4. Set up the Looker connection to your database.
  5. Test the connection.

How Do I Connect to Tableau?

Customers who want to sync data from CaliberMind to Tableau can do so by connecting to a Google BigQuery database:

  1. Start Tableau and under Connect, select Google BigQuery.
  2. In Authentication, select Sign In using Service Account (JSON) file.
  3. Enter the file path or use the Browse button to search for the JSON file that was provided to you by CaliberMind.
  4. Click Sign In.
  5. Select Accept to allow Tableau to access your Google BigQuery data. You will be prompted to close the browser.

On the data source page, do the following:

  1. From the Project drop-down list, select a project. Alternatively, select publicdata to connect to sample data in BigQuery.
  2. From the Dataset drop-down list, select a data set.
  3. Under Table, select a table.
Use custom SQL to connect to a specific query rather than the entire data source. For more information, see Connect to a Custom SQL Query.
